This characteristic West Virginia food is said to have originated in Fairmont, WV in 1927. 

Giuseppe "Joseph" Argiro is credited with inventing the pepperoni roll at the Country Club Bakery in Fairmont, making Fairmont the "Pepperoni Roll Capital of the World."

The Country Club Bakery is an unassuming shop halfway back off Country Club road.

Our research showed that pepperoni rolls are not only still baked at the Country Club Bakery, they are delicious.
