Of all the monuments to George Washington, Audubon's dedication of this eagle to Washington is perhaps the strangest. Strange because this species doesn't exist.

Mary the Mother of Washington


This monument on Washington Street in Fredericksburg, VA, was erected in 1893-94 by two women's organizations, The Fredericksburg Mary Washington Monument Association and the The National Mary Washington Memorial Association. It marks the grave of Mary Ball Washington, George Washington's mother.
